MEET THE AOKY RANCH HERD

Angelina with her 2006 cria, AOKY Kentucky Darby

SSF ACCOYO ANGELINA

Angelina was our first cria and has become known as “The Queen.” And yes, she is the Alpha Female in the herd!

She births easily and unassisted and is currently bred to Eagle Bend’s Ferrari's Hemiaccoyo Paragon for a January 2010 cria. We expect a beautiful baby out of this match.

Angelina is a full accoyo white huacaya and in her younger days ribboned in four prestigious shows. And best of all, she throws blue ribbon babies!

AOKY KENTUCKY DARBY

Darby is easily the most approachable of our Alpacas which makes her the farm sweetheart and PR girl. She is probably the most curious as well. She was the first cria born on our farm and for that reason alone she is very special.

When you touch her fiber it is a pleasure. She is very fine, very dense and incredibly soft. Like her mother Angelina, she has very nice confirmation. Darby is half Accoyo and half Allianza white Huacaya alpaca. Her sire is Nirvana's Augustus from Portas Nirvana Alpacas.

Darby turned out to be a great first time mom. We came out one morning to find Julep dry and running about. It's nice when alpacas have read the instruction book :-). She is a very attentive mother and will be rebred in the spring of 2010.

EOA Midnight Pass

EOA MIDNIGHT PASS

Midnight has no difficulty bringing handsome crias into this herd. Rocky (born 12/19/09) is her 3rd male cria. From a rose gray sire Midnight produced Burley who is mostly deep brown but with fawn and gray in his blanket. From a black sire she gave us Cole and Rocky - both non-fading blacks. With her gray background we'll keep trying for a gray GIRL! She will be rebred in the spring of 2010 for a spring 2011 cria (no more Holiday births here :-)).

AOKY GABBY

We purchased Gabby from Erie Oasis Alpacas in Sandusky, Ohio at the age of 6 months. She is of Bolevian and Peruvian descent with an adorable face and wonderful confirmation. She is a true black Huacaya alpaca, and since we wanted to add color to our herd, we were willing to wait for her to grow up to become one of our production females.

Gabby has given us two crias - a male and a female, so she is following the 50/50 statistical pattern that the industry says is the rule. Her crias come easily and unassisted and she passes along the color and fiber characteristics of the sire. We have been very pleased with both her crias. She will be rebred in the spring of 2010.

AOKY Kentucky Burley

AOKY KENTUCKY BURLEY

AOKY Kentucky Burley was Midnight's first cria. His sire is Erie Oasis Lucillio's Grayson. We named him Burley because his coloring was like a twist of tobacco with a touch of rose gray like Grayson.

We never showed Burley in any halter shows but his fiber will go on the road this year to compete in fleece competitions. He will be 2 years old in September and his crimp and fineness are proving worthy of his heritage - Silvio, Dom Lucillio and Royal Fawn.

SSF PERUVIAN KEYSTONE

Until Burley came along, Keystone was our "token male." We purchased him as a gelding from Seldom Scene Farm to use as a companion animal. Since our herd was so small, we needed him as a companion for the animals that were traveling.

Keystone is a small male, which is why he was gelded, but his fiber is a rich reddish brown and very fine and soft. So we are happy to have him for his fiber as well as his companionship.

AOKY Kentucky Gabriel

AOKY KENTUCKY GABRIEL

Gabe has recovered nicely from his broken leg and is quite handsome. His left foot is turned somewhat because of the cast and splint, so he probably won't be shown in a halter class, but we'll see what his fiber looks like at shearing. It is very soft and is a beautiful color, so other options for him are fiber spin offs and fiber shows.

AOKY KENTUCKY COLE

Cole is growing into a nice yearling. We have not shown him yet, but he is definitely show quality. He will be in training this winter for the spring 2010 shows.

KENTUCKY JULEP

KENTUCKY JULEP

Kentucky Julep arrived on September 23, 2009. Julep is our first female cria born on the farm since her mother - Kentucky Darby - was born in 2006! Needless to say we were quite pleased. She was of course light and we are waiting till after spring shearing to determine if she is white or light (light fawn). Either way she is a keeper.

KENTUCKY BELLA

Kentucky Bella was born November 18, 2009 and lives up to her name. Very feminine, petite and glossy black. Like his sire (Legends Challenger) before him, Stratosphere tends to throw black when bred to black, even with his gray heritage. Gabby does tend to throw pretty babies (take a look at Gabe).

KENTUCKY ROCKFIELD

KENTUCKY ROCKFIELD

Kentucky Rockfield (a.k.a. Rocky) weighed in at 25 pounds on December 18, 2009 (we couldn't believe it either - we weighed him twice). He must be something special because his mother Midnight is EXTREMELY and Uncharacteristicly protective of him. He was almost the same size as his cousin Bella at birth and even though there is a month's difference between them, the only way we can tell them apart in the field is by the color of their cria coats!

ANGELINA'S BABY GIRL

This is the absolute newest addition to the farm, so new she doesn't even have a name yet. This is Angelina's cria, which was born on January 27, 2010. More about her shortly!
